Musing on life ....

The blog name is "poker musings and life" .... so I figured I would talk about some "life" things.

I'm not much of a political person, but I have been maniacally focused on retirement for quite some time. The impending retirement of all the baby boomers is quite exciting and unnerving at the same time. I really feel that anyone not prepping themselves for the workforce, social security, and money drain about to happen in the next few years is in for a rude awakening.

I think these changes will bring about great opportunities for those ready to seize them. It's not that money will disappear from the economy, it will just be shifted in different directions.

I believe, and have for a while, that we are being brainwashed by the government that Social Security is going away. I'm not one of those wackos, but it just makes sense. The Social Security discussion has being going on for decades. And it is a matter of fact that all the retirees in the next few years will put an enormous drain on the system. So when they come to us and say, "Hey the system is out of money, we have to dump it." ... we'll just say, "Ohhhh, well they've been telling us that for years." .... or, could be a way to bring privatized accounts to the system.

These thoughts have driven me to live on 70% of my income. I strive hard to keep 30% for my future. You can only ever count on yourself, my company is not taking care of me (pensions going away), my government is not taking care of me (Social Security going away) ..... who is going to take care of me ? I don't have any children to take care of me.

I'm also a strong believer in teaching PERSONAL Finance in public schools. Screw this macro/micro economics. Teach these children about SAVING - INVESTING - EVIL DEBT .... the power of compound interest.

What got me started on this thread was a walk through the parking lot this morning. I walked pass 5 cars this morning, and every one of them was tuned into some type of talk radio show. Not the FM morning show junk, but AM class talk radio. And it got me to thinking, "what separates certain classes in our society ?" .... I remember walking through a mall parking lot last week and the cars that I passed where blaring music. Not that music is bad, but my thought this morning lead to, "Some people are on a constant self-discovery, self-education, self-evaluation path in life." ..... some, I think, are just passing through without much thought about themselves or others.

Now I just got to keep my hands of my retirement money ... so tempting to make a huge poker bankroll with it :-)
